The Willow Proxy Filter is an HTTP proxy written in Python that uses a filtering proxy to block pornography.
It was originally written (pre 2007) by an outfit called Digital Lumber http://www.digitallumber.com but they have since disappeared. In January 2010, [[David Bowman]] loaded his copy of the code onto Sourceforge (http://www.sourceforge.net)

This software has bugs. I think it would not be too hard to defeat the filter. If your life/career depended on no pornography ever being delivered, ''do not'' use this product.

Welcome to the ''Willow Proxy Filter'' v4.0
Note that this product is different to the WillowNG package in the Ubuntu repositories, despite the language being the same.
This is a filtering proxy server written in Python. It uses a Bayesian filter to remove pornography from requests. It is licensed under the GPL and is free as in beer.
[[Installation]] is a bit fiddly, but the application works well.
willow.conf is the main configuration file. The following comes from //OPTIONS.TXT//
; docroot
: Directory that forms the main document tree visible from the web (from the local server)
; indexfiles
: List of resources to look for when the client requests a directory.
; webadmin
: Hostname to use for access to the web administration interface. Default is http://www.proxy.admin. Set this to "" to disable the web admin interface.
; admin_accounts
: Dictionary of users (and passwords) allowed to use web admin interface.
; noproxy
: If this parameter is set to True, then willow will act as a regular http server and not an http proxy.
; syspath
: List of directories to add to python path.
; port
: Port to listen on. Default is 80.
; maxcon
: Maximum number of connections the server will keep open. Default is 750.
; profiledir
: Path to directory to store profile data in. Default is not to profile.
; logdir
: Path to a directory where log files will be written. When this is specified logs are not written to syslog (the default). Errors are written to error.log and responses are logged in response.log.
; authmodule
: Name of module to use for authentication. Default is no authentication.
; adminauthmodule
: Name of module to use for authentication to administrative interface. Default is user root, password willowadmin.
; cachedir
: Path to directory where cache will reside. Default is no cache.
; filters
: List of filter modules. The order they are listed are the order they are called. Default is not to filter.
; filterhtmlpath
: Path to html file to send to client if request or response is filtered. If this (or any more specific option) is not specified, the default is to send a simple message in red text on a yellow background saying that the page was filtered.
; cachetypes
: List of content types to cache. The list elements can either be the full content type (i.e. 'text/html') or just first part (i.e. 'image').
